SAFETY AND RESPECT FOR FARMWORKERS IN FIRES!
On the front lines of climate change fueled wildfires, farm workers are taking the brave step of organizing for safety and respect. During the wine grape harvest, workers labor tirelessly through the night, away from their families, in smoke filled skies, near wildfires, and in evacuation zones. This year as the drought worsens, our community is preparing to stand in solidarity with farmworkers.
JOIN THE GROWING MOVEMENT IN SUPPORT!
Despite multiple years of devastating climate change fueled wildfires, Sonoma County still does not have a formal policy addressing farmworker safety in wildfire evacuation zones. All of us experience these threats, but farmworkers are repeatedly put in danger during wildfire season, risking their lives to harvest the grapes that the entire wine industry is built on. Over 80 businesses and organizations have signed onto an open letter supporting the adoption of a rigorous, local policy by June 1, 2022 that prioritizes the safety and dignity of those putting their bodies on the line.
And don't forget to donate to Undocufund to make sure that undocumented workers and families have support when they are impacted by lost wages during wildfires.
